My first bit of work for Iris Nation, i was approached to design the overall look and feel and the inner workings of each page for this tasty microsite.

Working closely within the in-house team this project went for a very sketchy personal feel, with the overall aim of the site to portray how this revolutionary new bra can hold women’s breast as comfortable as a pair of hands.

Overall tasty little microsite, which already has seen substantial hits through the twitter feed on the ultimate strapless diary, and it was a pleasure working with a great team of people.

My second tutorial for Computer Arts, in this one i got asked to revive an old classic Flash page flip movie.

Obviously there is a million and one of these out on the net, i was considering using some old free AS1 code or even starting a new one using some cool AS3 classes, but in the end i stumbled on a great setup by Megazine.

The tutorial basically covers how you would go about making a page flip Flash movie by using this great free open source code from Megazine and hopefully will put you on the right track to getting a killer page flip app on the go.

Not sure where this could go, but i like how smooth the playback is using the Flash Engine.

I think if i have the time I would like to do some other tests with proper 3D engines in flash, with real 3D models, and also work on some flocking system to try and make the movement more believable of real birds.

Using Flash’s new 3D properties i quickly knocked up a 3D particle emitter that follows the mouse and emits when the mouse is down, i also wanted to quickly have a look at the new Vector3D class in Flash 10, whilst you could do all of this without the new 3D features or the Vector3D class, i just wanted to have a look at these new features and then hopefully expand on this further in the future.

One thing the new Flash 3D features do not do as standard is depth sort, so i have made a simple method for sorting the particles based on their Z depth.

The source code is available for download on the link below, should all be simple stuff.

Something i have wanted to try and do for a long time in Flash for a while is figure out a way of drawing cubic curves, like what you would expect from illustrator, whilst the code to produce to results of true cubic curves is quite heavy, i have figured out a light weight solution which does not produce true cubic curves, but its a good solution to what i wanted to do i think.

When you open the movie just click anywhere to create a new curve control point for the start and end point, you can also move the points by clicking and dragging them.

Next step for this is animating along a curve, which with a little bit of maths from the great robert penner is not as difficult as you might imagine. more coming soon.

My first and hopefully not my last tutorial for Computer Arts, I have been meaning to get around to doing some tutorials for ages, so back end of 2008 I just threw myself into it.

This tutorial introduces the user to a basic to intermediate Interface design in Flash AS3, built on an old classic Mac OS X dock style growing and shrinking interface, with some bits of simple XML content driving the menu system.

If anyone has any ideas on some future topics they would like exploring for tutorials please let me know and ill see what i can do as this is something i want to be doing more come 2009.

Just a note to say that all the images featured in the Interface that i did were free desktop backgrounds i found around the web, just in case someone else sees their image
